Visual Design Theory

Rule of Thirds’ states that subject of interest should intersect imaginary lines.  When the subject is a person, one of their eyes should be where one of these points intersect.

Draw the viewer to a key area of interest in the image with diagonal view lines.

Use symmetrical designs.  A balance of ‘energy’ across the field of view engages the viewer and holds their attention.  Strive for equal bulk.

Use odd numbers of subjects.
